VOLUNTEER IDEAS FOR PARENTS

A great way to support your child's lacrosse experience is by becoming a volunteer for the lacrosse program.  It's best to get started when your child first signs up for lacrosse, so that you both can start together.

  • Become part of the TUCSON YOUTH LACROSSE Inc. Committee needs.
  • Assistant coaching duties
  • Become Team's treasurer
  • Score Table Help  ~  keep score, time, stats & operate horn.
  • Assist with the PRE-game activities (Nat'l Anthem ~ Starting player introductions)
  • Oversee Field Lining efforts if not done by the city / county or school
  • Assist in registration
  • Create Game "Program"
  • Set up Game Concessions if allowed
  • Chaperone away game trips ~ van drivers or use of parent's lg suburban
  • Organize transportation for practices (carpools)
  • Help manage used equipment for the TYL that is from being out grown or cast aside for newer items
  • Take Game videos & still pictures of players.
  • Organize advertising, marketing, & publicity for the team
  • Participate in Team & TYL Inc fund raising
  • Hold Cookouts & Social Events for the teams including "Awards Banquets" & TYL Inc  events like "Fastest Shot" Tournaments & "Equipment Fairs"

GAME DAY "SCORE TABLE" GUIDANCE

This guidance comes from over 18 yrs of Officiating by the TYL Board members.  The "score table" personnel, along with the "field" preparers, should be aware of the following on the field for GameDay, as the official's review should involve these items...

Boy's FIELD notables
  • Holes filled in or knowledge of concerns to inform the officials.  ( ie sprinkler heads &/or soccer goal posts on the end line )

  • All animal waste has been removed

  • Field Dimensions are per rules or inform official of alterations and reasons for.
~ Field Lines  2" wide  & white or contrasting color,   Center Line 4" WHITE,    Goal Line 2"
        ~ NO lines are dashed.

  • "COACHES AREAS & TABLE AREA" are striped properly.  TABLE should be AT LEAST  6 YARDS (18')
away from field sideline.  This is for SAFETY !  ~ Go to "GAME RULES" link

  • SPECTATOR  side of the field has a  "limit line"   6 YARDS away from field side line.  This is for SAFETY !

  • Goals are correct size and SOLID (many goals get beat up and loose ~ tipped backwards many times)

  • Nets are "tightly" tied to goals, no holes
ILLEGAL GOAL is a 3 Minute NON Releasable Foul to start the game...   NO REASON for this !
Boys NFHS Rule 1-3 ART 3

  • 7 Cones, 15 Balls  (min. 5 on each endline to start game & 1 game ball)

  • TABLE with min. 2 Chairs ( 1 for home & away scorekeeper)

Girl's FIELD notables
specific info to be posted soon

  • Holes filled in or knowledge of concerns to inform the officials.  ( ie sprinkler heads &/or soccer goal posts on the end line )

  • All animal waste has been removed

Boys "Table" REVIEW with Officials includes:
  • Have MEDICAL / Emergency Plans info at the table, with cell phone at ready for 911.

  • Timer(s) and Clocks  ~ Best to have at least 3-5 clocks,  1 Game, 2-4 Penalty  or at least the ability to track 4 penalties, as that is possible at one time.

  • Know about  "Stop & Go" time   and    "Running" time
(NO additional time is added to penalties during running time)

  • Working HORN (w/ spare air can)   Non Operating HORN is a Technical Foul (away team starts game with ball, NO faceoff)NO REASON for this !   Boys NFHS Rule 6-5 ART 2(s)

  • If a "problem" occurs at the scorer's table,  DOUBLE blow horn at next dead ball.  Officials will address
ex.  ...if a player leaves the penalty box before he's told to "release"  or not totally equipped when
entering field of play.  example ~ chin strap not snapped, mouth piece out, putting gloves on...

  • SUBSITUTION HORN request by Coach ~  Ball goes out of bounds on the SIDELINE ONLY & official has both arms up.   No horn allowed on end line out of bounds ball.

  • IN-Home Player ~  Is the first player in score book.  HELP Coach here... In-home MUST BE A STARTER

  • Time Count Downs  ~  Ask Ref how he wants it, but note...  GAME TIME ...3,2,1, HORN at ZERO !   Horn is official end of time, not the ref's whistle.   Last QTR  Ref will want to know when there's 2:10 left, then 2:00 minutes...  Team ahead after that, MUST keep the ball inside their offensive box once they get it in.    PENALTY TIME   ...3,2,1 RELEASE (is called out)

  • Have Player in penalty box SIT/KNEEL in front of table during penalty.  Last 10 seconds, he can be substituted for and may also move up to the sideline "ready" to enter...  TELL THEM to put in their MOUTH GUARD and have them listen for 'release", then they go !

  • Bad Language ~ Listen for inappropriate language and report to ref.  US Lacrosse is stern on this !

  • OK to request PLAYERS GET BACK if they start moving into the coaches box... YOU NEED visibility
IF a "problem"  Double Horn the Official.

  • NO Spectators are to be behind Teams / Table and HECKLING anyone  ~  Double Horn the Official
