A dozen or so self-motivated Tucson area sophomores; ventured into the Phoenix Youth Lacrosse League as an exhibition team; known as the “Warriors”. They had ‘4’ exhibition games and scored a total of 4 goals… but the guys were hooked.   In the off season, the boys rallied a few parents who contacted the U of A Laxcats coach Mickey Miles Felton, to assist in finding a ‘coach’ for the 2000 season.  The result turned up Dan May; a coach that seemed to be a compatible match for the task at hand.  Field space was going to be the first challenge this new sport to Tucson would have to overcome. Coach May immediately worked out getting some field time at Mo Udall Park with the City of Tucson Parks & Rec. It cost thou, as the ‘team’ was considered a private organization, not qualifying for free field time as soccer, baseball & football youth leagues.

“3” PEAT !!!!  Tucson again wins the AYLL Div II Championship !!
This time it goes to the Catalina Foothills Falcons !!  Congrats FALCONS (coached by Matt Hourigan, Kurt Veitch & Jeff Pfiefer) for bringing home the title for a 3rd straight year. The Falcons finished 13-1 with it’s ONLY loss, to the ORO Valley Wolverines !   An upset game to be remembered… OV 6-5.

The CFH’s JV squad also had a fine season 7-2 and should be a huge impact for the upcoming 2011 season coached by Kurt Veitch.

Also congrats to Coach Tom Carr & the “Wolverines” & their assistant coaches; Andy Smith, Cameron Engel, Capt. Shaun Segle & Nate Wiens, as they finished with their best effort 7-6, making the Div II playoff in their 3rd season.
Wolverines make the Div II playoff, but then lose to eventual Champs CFH in the first round. Could there be a “4”peat coming ?  The Wolverines return 14 seniors for the 2011 season.

The Salpointe Lancers, (coached by Kevin Kreiger & Luke Avery) after winning the Div II title in 2009, were moved up to Div I for the 2010 season and again took on the task at hand to make the playoff and did they ! The Lancers were looking strong with a 4-0 record… then stumbled twice, dropping a rough game to Brophy, then one to Chandler, teams known to lead the AYLL Div I.  They then refocused and won the next 9 straight.  They were matched with Saguaro of Phx for the first round defeating the Sabercats 13-3 and then met the Chandler Wolves once again in the semi-finals… dropping a 2nd meeting  7-6.   The Lancers finished with a 13-3 record.

The pride of youth sports is when past players return to help the league that gave them so much… this time it’s  2nd team Div II All-State attackman; Jonny Mclaughlin who returned to coach the Tanque Verde  JHS Bobcats.
Tanque Verde Varsity & JV coaches Rullan & Spalla; start a 2nd TV JHS squad, the “Jr Sabercats”s to go along with the JHS Emily Gray Bobcats.

Oro Valley continued the growth of Tucson Youth Lacrosse teams by adding a JHS squad to provide better experienced players to the Wolverines.  The new JHS “Warriors” are coached by Don McGann

Oro Valley coaching has also produced quality player who desire to return and contribute to the league that gave them so much…Oro Valley players, Dana Collins, Andy Conboy and Ian Carr under the guidance of OV head coach Tom Carr, helped coach with the HS Wolverines and the JHS Warriors teams.

TYL has another player return to help, but this time “officiating” vs coaching.   Mike Novak, returns to add some youth to the Tucson Officials group.

The JHS Tucson Scorpions develop the 1st U-6 squad to accompany the Scorpions at games and played several exhibition games with other developing U-6 teams in Phoenix.  Great job Coaches Frost & Meyer.

The AGLA,  Tucson Storm works on recruiting and has a good building season with coaches Zach Brink & Barbara Beauchamp returning,  guided by 2nd year team manager Ann Dernier.  Ann brought aboard some significant help developing a parent support group, lead by Christina Wacker, Steve & Sandra Kraus, Steve Nash, Marta Mckenna and Chris Smith.  Victoria Stremca retires as treasurer after serving the Storm for 4 years.  Job well done Victoria.  This unity will bring stronger recruiting for the 2011 season.  The newly directed TYL Inc. is working with some valley schools recently, on more recruiting and lacrosse teaching in JHS gym classes, which should start to build the girls program more than in it's past.
This year the storm has it's 1st AGLA  All-State player in goalie Brianna Eklund, earning "honorable mention".  Congrats to Brianna & the Storm, job well done ladies in a league so dominated by the Phoenix teams.

Notes of Interest: Jack Dohoney returns for his soph. year on attack with the U of A Laxcats, as transfer Ben Kagan from NAU, joins the U of A  Laxcats in the Goal, along with Charlie Maxwell & Cameron Wilhite  (Arizona),  Josh Merriman, Chris Cutshaw, Adam Ezrre, Stephen Hutchison & Ian Hook (NAU),  Kory Byas ~ Texas Tech, Eric Carter (Denver DI), Brad Chestnut (Loyola Maramount), Ryan Baker (Claremont), Ben nelson (Seattle)  joining the Tucson alumni off to try playing in college.
AND
The  U of A  Lady Laxcats have enjoyed the skills of past Tucson Storm AGLA  players, Liz Palmer (2001-2005), Heather Froeshle (2004-2006), Liz  Ellerson, and recently on the 2010 squad, Kelly Johnson, Dana Segura (D) Soph., Kelly Engle (A) Jr., Michelle Robenson (D) Sr., Allie Zeeb (D) Sr. & Kelly Novak (M) Fresh.

The TYL Inc. launches this NEW website !  and  has plans in place for building more lacrosse by developing lacrosse in gym classes, thru the use of the non-contact version "Chumash"  & and a non-contact field version, good for both indoors or out.
The TYL Inc. obtains IRS 501-C-3  non-profit "public charity" status for lax loving donators...

With the focus on new lacrosse growth in Tucson, long time official & TYL Inc President;  Dan May,  retires from the ALOA (Az Lacrosse Officials Assoc.) after 7 years of service.

The Tucson Storm work at building a stronger girls team through FALL BALL & recruiting efforts,  lead by team manager Ann Dernier & coaching guidance from Chuck Rullan.

The TUCSON ELITE ~ Tucson's first All-Star squad is formed.  This team will enter into different Adrenaline Challenge sponsored tournaments, representing Tucson's best.  This team is coached by Tucson Sabercat's HC Chuck Rullan, Catalina Foothills HC Mike Kapp & Salpointe's HC Kevin Kreiger .

Catalina Foothills head coach Mike Kapp, was elected to the State AYLL Board of Directors to represent Tucson once again.

Tucson Youth Lacrosse benefits from the efforts of Mike Storie, as Mike develops the Southern Arizona Lacrosse Academy (SALA) for the U-6 level kids, 3rd,4th & 5th graders !   See Link on Home Page.
Mike started coaching at Salpointe HS level back in 2007 for 3 yrs thru 2009, before starting SALA.

LOOK AT WHAT TUCSON LACROSSE HAS BECOME !  What a FINE year !
Be Proud Tucson !  & keep pushing the awareness & growth…

With the Phoenix Youth Lacrosse League in it’s 4th year,  2nd for the HS level teams, they had developed the past 3 years since it’s origin in 1997 with 4 JHS teams, there’s 14 HS & 8 JHS level teams comprising the PYLL… Tucson enters it’s first ‘official’ team in the PYLL. The ‘Gamecocks’ a high school level club, coached by Dan May; started with 17 players coming from 5 different Tucson area high schools.  The Gamecocks finished 0-8 after winning their 1st ever ‘official’ league game against Hamilton. H.S. club in Phoenix.
Coach May takes a position on the newly developing state league board representing Tucson lacrosse.

The PYLL changed names to the ARIZONA YOUTH LACROSSE LEAGUE  (AYLL) to reflex the expansion beyond Phoenix. The new AYLL was fundamental in the Arizona Chapter of US Lacrosse Inc. also developing.  In the summer; AYLL Tucson Rep. Dan May founded the Tucson Youth Lacrosse LLC, as part of the state wide AYLL; helping to secure future field space from the City of Tucson Parks & Rec. and Pima County Parks & Rec as an official league.

Strong supportive parents; again rallied in sending 7 of the maturing ‘Gamecocks’ to off season lacrosse camps and with the establishment of “FallBall” as a recruiting/teaching atmosphere, the Gamecocks returned much better prepared for the 2001 season…

Tucson adds their 1st JHS team to the new AYLL,  the Tucson Scorpions under the guidance of TYL founder Dan May; with coaching duties to be handled by Bob Novak. Now the Gamecocks have a feeder team for future existence. Lacrosse excitement builds in Tucson as the 2nd year Tucson Gamecocks (head coach
Dan May, assistant coaches Scott Steehler & Lon Packer) go undefeated all the way to the AYLL State Finals… After beating the Hamilton Huskies of Phoenix, (the only team Tucson beat last year) and being
2-0, the level of belief started.  Upon reaching 6-0, the team had a commitment meeting and decided to really start to focus on a title.  The Gamecocks outscored their last 4 opponents 49-13 to finish UNDEFEATED 10- 0.  Now poised and ready to quiet the critics… believing their success was due to a weak schedule, as the Gamecocks entered the AYLL playoffs for the 1st time in just their second season.

The Gamecocks were seeded #1 (getting a 1st round bye) but were scheduled to meet the Highland Hawks on Highland’s home field and came out victorious; 6-5 in the semi-finals.

The finals brought the only loss of the season but not without a fight.  The Gamecock were out numbered by Phoenix Country Day at midfield 10-6; yet they found themselves up 4-1 at halftime, demonstrating very accurate shooting and the league’s best ‘ball movement’.  After numerous controversial calls in the second half, all the heart the Gamecocks could muster up; couldn’t make up for the lack of legs at midfield; as the Gamecocks couldn’t control possession as planned.  The completely drained Tucson squad fell short 7-5 as the horn sounded. The Gamecocks returned home knowing the respect just earned, was enough gratification to heal the wounds quickly, when realizing undefeated status, 11-1 finishing record and 2nd place in the AYLL for the 2001 was a FANTASTIC season !  A masterful turnaround to say the least.

CONGRATS Gamecocks !!You’ve set the bar and start Tucson on it’s way to having youth lacrosse.
Coach May gives a lot of the credit to some excellent parent team reps in Ladd Kleiman, Andy Sherman & Marty Fishkind.   PCDS coach Andy Wilkins won state championships at the HS & JHS levels. Andy was named the ‘coach of the year’ in his final season after helping get early growth in Phoenix since ’98.

In Sept 2001 Tucson City Parks & Recreation Dept. recognizes the TYL’s growth and a ‘Lacrosse field’ is established at Golf Links Sports Park w/8’ fences & lights !  “FallBall” can be played in the cooler evenings now.

The TYL adds 2nd JHS team, the Tanque Verde Bobcats.  The Bobcats are Tucson’s first school sponsored ‘club’ team with Bob Novak taking the new coaching reins.  Former Univ. of Az Laxcat player & former assist. with the Gamecocks; Lon Packer, becomes head coach with retired long time Univ. of Az Laxcats coach Mickey Miles Felton as assistant coach for the JHS Scorpions.
Tucson Gamecocks add Brian Bell; ( former US Air Force Academy player '66-'70), Dr. Seneca Erman (All-American at NYCC in the 50’s, & played against Jim Brown ) as assistant coaches to replace Lon Packer & assist game coach Scott Steehler.

The Gamecocks return 3 Sr. starters; (losing 12) but added 8 very desiring thou small in stature freshmen from the first year JHS Scorpions.  The Gamecocks never gave up in any game, but found themselves on the losing end of all 10 league games. A growth year for sure; as the senior leadership dwindled with the loss of the AYLL’s 2001  leading scorer Greg Polheber; to a crippling hip injury that would plague Greg second half of the season.

Note of interest: Former Tucson Gamecock; David Sherman starts a college lacrosse career at the Univ. of Az., joining the Laxcats.  Tucson’s first high school player to go on to play in college.

Liz Palmer’s ( Student & Univ. of Az Girls Team Coach / player ) beginning attempts at building the girls program, based at Golf Links Sports Park, with a dozen high schools level girls from an assortment of valley high schools.
Phoenix is also beginning to develop a girls HS state league with a half dozen teams in the Phoenix Valley which the Tucson team will be part of.
  • 2003
As the AYLL grows to 18 boys varsity teams, 13 JV teams & 14 JHS teams,
including Tucson stepping up with it’s second high school team…
the Tanque Verde SaberCats, to be coached by Dan May; giving future to the TV Bobcat JHS players at Emily Gray Middle school, being developed by Bob Novak.  Sean Nuggent takes over the head coaching duties for the TV JHS Bobcats, assisted by Barry Naugle & Rich Dohoney.  Scott Steehler; current TYL chairman, takes Tucson area AYLL board seat; replacing Dan May; who will focus on coaching the SaberCats.

The Tucson ‘Gamecocks’ coaching duties are picked up by 2 ex- Univ. of Az - Laxcat players, Matt Martini & Kevin Tripp.  Tucson again places a team in the state finals; this season it’s the JHS Scorpions. The Scorpions lost a close one in the championship game, (coached by Packer & Felton).
The TYL had it’s first player return to help coach in the league  that he enjoyed learn lacrosse, that being 2 time AYLL All-Star Cameron Steehler, an ex-Gamecock.  Cam assisted with the JHS Tucson Scorpions.

Brian Bell assists the U of A Girls Club ~  & Tucson’s HS squad, coaching in the fall 2003 while Liz Palmer was away.  Along with becoming certified to ‘officiate’; the HS girls games, helping with the development & promotion of the girls HS lacrosse program in Tucson.

Note of Interest: Former Tucson Gamecock; Greg Polheber (AYLL’s scoring leader in 2001 &  All-State 2001 & 2002) starts his college lacrosse career by joining the U of A Laxcats
The TYL is developing players for the local Univ. lacrosse club,  accomplishing  it’s Mission Statement with it’s second college bound player.

  • 2004

Tucson growth comes with some changes to it’s coaching staffs, with JHS Scorpion assistant coach Mickey Miles Felton taking over the Tucson Gamecocks (changing the name to the X-treme) assisted by
Luke Avery.

Craig Fertelmes takes the head coaching duties for the TV Sacbercats HS club.  Lon Packer moves to Phoenix, taking over the reins at PCDS HS. Sean Nuggent continues handling the coaching duties at TV Emily Gray JHS Bobcats.

Tucson finds the ‘finals’ again, this time with the JHS TV Bobcats (coached by Sean Nuggent ), falling short in the championship game to Mohave from Phoenix.

Additional changes came in the way of some Tucson coaching pioneers,(after passing along their coaching reins) making a switch to ‘officiating’ for the AYLL.  Dan May, Bob Novak & Brian Bell have been certified through ALOA (Az Lacrosse Officials Assoc.) field & clinic trainings; as US Lacrosse Youth Officials by Tom Carr, trainer for the USL / ALOA, along with officiating most of the LaxCats games at the college level here in Tucson and the AYLL when he’s available. The hope is to attract other ex-laxcat players, graduating AYLL players & retiree's from the Men’s Club to start building the Tucson segment of the ALOA.

PHOENIX Girls League now has 11 HS, 6 JV teams.   Tucson continues to work on promotions and building a team to join the AGLA (Az Girls Lacrosse Assoc.)
  • 2005

The AYYL grows to 20 HS teams, 13+ JV teams & 16 JHS level teams… Tucson adds to that growth with the development of the Tanque Verde Sabercats’ Junior Varsity (JV) squad. Tucson’s first JV fielded team. The TV Sabercats have a coaching change once again with Randy Hnyda taking the HC with Ladd Spalla &  Scott Steehler assisting.

The Tucson Extreme adds the services of Chuck Rullan to assist Mickey Miles Felton.

Tucson Youth Lacrosse continues to provide the state league with limited but quality teams, as the Tucson JHS Scorpions reach the ‘semi-finals’, but drop a tough one.

In 2005, long standing TYL Board member (& new chairman) Marie Baca; takes a position on the AYLL Board as Tucson Rep for the departing Steehler.  Marie has also been the team’s manager for the TV SaberCats (HS) & Bobcats (JHS) for the past 3 yrs. She established some of the league’s best trained ‘score table’ personnel in the league.

  • 2006

The AYLL develops a 2 division league to accommodate the 20 HS teams and the diverse level of skill.   Tucson enjoys the HS division separation, again gaining a spot in the Div 2 ‘finals’ with the Tucson X-treme (coached by Mickey Miles Felton assisted by Chuck Rullan), but once again the Tucson team falls short in the championship game to Highland.
The Tanque Verde SaberCats also did well; making to the semi-finals in Div 2 (coached by Sean Nuggent, assisted by Ladd Spalla & Rich Dohoney)

The TV Sabercats JV squad makes the playoffs as do the TV JHS Emily Gray Bobcats, who were 9-1 also coached by Sean Nuggent.

Tucson adds it’s 3rd JHS squad; the Catalina Foothills Club (students from Orange Grove Middle School), coached by Bake Shaffer with Kurt Veitch assisting.

Geoffrey Frost and Bill Meyer pick up the coaching duties for the JHS Tucson Scorpions, now in their 6th year of existence… Tucson’s first JHS team.  The Scorpions squad matured through a tough season going 4-6, but found that the skills got better at the end, with a 3rd place finish in the State's JHS Cactus Cup tournament.

JV level team at Desert View HS started, with the assistance of USL GRANT, which helped supply the team with equipment.  Unfortunately, the equipment was ill-stored and moisture, then pack rats did the equipment in,  & the school’s attempt to start a team slipped away, future attempts will come…

Tucson’s Parks & Rec creates a 2nd lacrosse field at Lincoln Park with 8’ fencing & lights for the TYL to support it’s promotions towards the SE area of Tucson and along with the Town of Vail.

The GIRLS HS club team, "Tucson Storm"  (part of the AGLA) is established under the guidance of Leslie Sanders; as team manager, who recruited MacKenna Chase to coach, with Victoria Stremca as Treasurer.

PYLL // AYLL completes it’s 10th season with Tucson teams being involved the last 7 seasons.

  • 2007

Tucson’s growth expands with 2 more JV clubs, 1 at Salpointe Catholic HS (C0-head coach Dean Greenberg & Co-head coach Mike Storie with ex-laxcat player Joe Mills; giving assistance) & 1 at Catalina Foothills HS (with 2 members of the Men’s Tucson Lax club at the helm, Bake Shaffer & Kurt Veitch).  These 2 programs will be developing 2 HS level programs for the 2008 season!

The Catalina Foothills/Orange Grove JHS Spartans team coaching duties are taken over by Jason Thrower & Ali McBride

The TYL has a returning player, Nick  Dacus, who takes on the coaching duties for the JHS TV Emily Gray Bobcats, and finish 4-6

Tucson does it again ! Congratulations to:
The Salpointe JV team (a school sponsored club) for being the “Champions” of the JV league regular season UNDEFEATED 9-0, in their 1st season !

The Catalina Foothills Falcons JV club squad, as they also had a very fine opening season; finishing 7-2 in their first season.
There is no AYLL post season tournament for JV level.

At the high school level, the Tanque Verde SaberCats HS club also did well; making it to the semi-finals,  before losing to Highland, coached by Randy Hnyda, Scott Steehler & Ladd Spalla along with the Tucson X-treme HS club (8-5) making the playoffs in Div I, coached by Chuck Rullan, but had a tough opening round loss.

The JHS level Catalina Foothills Spartans squad also shares the recognition for a job well done, finishing the regular season 9-2

The AGLA Tucson "Storm" girls squad is guided by team manager Leslie sanders, Linda Holmes & Treasurer Victoria Stemca.  MacKenna Chase returns for a 2nd season as head coach of the Storm, developing a confidence for the girls program.

With changes in the leadership of the TYL, the current organization dissolves and most teams are acting independently, others are getting help from those programs.

  • 2008
Tucson keeps rock’n the AYLL as they again take the HS Division II Championship !  Congrats to the Tanque Verde Sabercats HS team. Coached by Randy Hnyda, Chuck Rullan & Ladd Spalla. The Sabercats finished    13 -2.  Quite rewarding after a disappointing end last season finishing with a loss in the semi-finals.

Tucson also puts another HS team in the Div II playoffs, the Salpointe Lancers reached the Semi-Finals, coached by Dean Greenburg & Mike Storie, then fell short. Finished 9-5, in their first HS season.

Tucson continues to grow with the addition of the ORO Valley Wolverine, coached by Tom Carr &
assisted by Joe Lynch.
Oro Valley joins the AYLL with a high school level club team. With limited players & an AYLL rule about seniors playing JV level games, the AYLL waived the restriction for an entry team to start at the JV level originally.  Tucson’s 4th high school level team in the AYLL.  The Wolverines are to be commended, as they spent the year learning lacrosse, falling short on all games, finishing 0-12, but the enthusiasm is high and this program should grow quickly.

The Catalina Foothills Falcons also join the AYLL high school ranks placed in Div II, coached by Bake Shaffer & Kurt Veitch,  finishing 5-7.

The JHS Catalina Foothills Falcons had another fine season. Finishing 7-3, now coached by Mark Roberts & Jason Larish.

The JHS Tucson Scorpions scrambled thru a tough season with a 4-6 record;  then once again placed 3rd in the AYLL JHS Cactus Cup Tournament, matching the efforts of the  '06 season.  Geoffrey Frost & Bill Meyer are consistently growing the Scorpions back into top form.

Nick “the Chief” Dacus, returns for his 2nd season as HC of the TV JHS Bobcats.

The AGLA  Tucson Storm, make an administration change with Linda Holmes taking over the team manager position, replacing the departing Leslie Sanders, TYL Inc. wants to thank Leslie for her service.  The girls program needed a leader and she was there. Treasurer Stremca returns for a 3rd year !  The Storm's coaching staff makes some changes... Stacy Minster becomes head coach with Barbara Beauchamp assisting her to anchor the staff, that is building interest and enthusiasm on the Storm.

Note of Interest: Tucson has more players going off to play in college...Coty McKenzie, Nick Smith (U of A), Kevin Sanders, Tyler Forinash  (ASU), Billy Llyod, Dana Collins (Grand Canyon),Kyle Carter, Ben Kagen &  Rocco Wade (NAU) and Brendan Koogan goes to Colorado.
  • 2009
Tucson enters into it’s 10th season with 4 HS level club, 3 JV level clubs,  & 3 JHS level clubs.  Totaling 10, the TYL teams are now 15% of the State AYLL.

REPEAT !!  AYLL  High School Div II Title belongs again to a Tucson Club,
Congratulations to the Salpointe Lancers Undefeated at 12-0 Champions !
(coached by Dean Greenberg, Mike Storie & Randy Hnyda).

Last year’s AYLL Div II Champs, the Tanque Verde Sabercats, were moved up to Div I and had a tough go thru a rebuilding year finishing 3-8, coached by Chuck Rullan & Ladd Spalla. The duo also handled the coaching duties for the TV JHS Bobcats.

Catalina Foothills HS program head coaching duties taken over by Mickey Miles Felton and still assisted Kurt Veitch, with Kurt also HC for the JV squad,  as Bake Shaffer moves to the JHS head coaching duties, assisted by Mark Roberts.

The JHS Scorpions found their way back to the winning ways with a strong season lead by coaches Geoffrey Frost & Bill Meyer; finishing 9-2.  To cap off the season, the Scorpions finished 2nd in the State's JHS Cactus Cup Tournament. Currently, many of the JHS Tucson Scorpion 8th grade graduates have been feeding the quickly growing Salpointe HS team as preskilled freshmen.

Oro Valley Wolverines used the enthusiasm from it’s first season (2008) to improve to 2-8 in the AYLL’s
Div II under the reins of HC Tom Carr.  OV picked up some coaching help from; Andy Smith, Capt. Shaun Segle & Nate Wiens.

The Tucson Storm, girls HS squad, makes some changes as they find more recruits.  Ann Dernier takes over the team manager position.  Head coaching duties go to Zack Brink with 2nd year assistant Barbara Beauchamp returning;  offering the team stability.

For expansion of lacrosse, an increased number of officials must be obtained and trained. The Tucson area has picked up some new talent & recruits in; Brian Freeman, Jeff & Patrick Redman & Jeff Bell to join the resourceful 3... Brian Bell, Bob Novak & Dan May.

Note of Interest: Tucson has more TYL players go to college to play lacrosse. Jack Dohoney; TVSC Attackman, joins the U of A Laxcats, as Alex Eisen, follows a coaching interest with assisting for the Salpointe Lancers this past season, after a year playing for the U of A Laxcats.  James Hanson from Catalina foothills goes to Hendricks DII next season, as Kyle Prinster is headed to Oregon St.

With the discovery that the TYL Inc had dissolved, Dan May recruited up Brian Bell, Bob Novak & Ann Dernier to re-establish the TYL Inc.  This time they do apply & receive Non-Profit status with the State A.C.C.  & the IRS as a  501 (c) (3)  "Public Charity".

The City of Tucson Parks & Rec, grows with Tucson Lacrosse in the SE area of Tucson and adds 8' fencing at Lincoln Park, on both ends of the soccer field 'A' to adapt it for safe lacrosse play.

A "4 PEAT"  falls short...  The Oro Valley Wolverines were on pace to continue Tucson's dominance in the AYLL D2, entering the FINALS 11-2.  See AYLL Game report  The Wolverines were the only Tucson team remaining to capture the DII title, but played a GREAT Championship game to only fall short in OT 12-11 after being down 3 with 3 minutes remaining.  Congrats to Coach Carr & staff !   Oro Valley loses 12 seniors from this squad, so Coach Carr & staff will have a challenge in 2012, but do have 2 JHS programs now; that should start to feed more talent in the next few years.

The other 3 Tucson high school teams, participated in Div I, taking on the AYLL's best.  They found themselves battling it out for the last playoff spot, with Salpointe winning out with a .500 record of 7-7 having beat both the Falcons & the Sabercats in the regular season.  Catalina Foothills also finishing 7-7 and the Tucson Sabercats 6-8.

The TYL has a returning players, Keegan Gibbons & Frankie Armenta, who takes on the coaching duties for the JHS TV Emily Gray Bobcats, and finish 6-4.

Tucson Sabercat's Phil Coogan, became Tucson's First All-American, as the AYLL's Top scorer with 73 points, 43 goals & 30 assists.
Ian Brewer, Catalina Foothill's top attackman, finished 3rd with 63 points, 53 goals & 10 assists
Tucson Sabercat's head coach Chuck Rullan, named AYLL's DI Coach of the Year.

Tucson again faired well at the Junior High Div I level with the Tucson Scorpions taking 3rd place in the AYLL Cactus Cup Tounament, after finishing 4-6.   Congrats to coaches Geoffrey Frost, Bill Meyer, Simon Keller, & Dave Lyons.  Geoff & Bill have coached the Scorpions for 6 yrs, with Dave assisting for 5 yrs.
Dr. Geoffrey Frost wanted to give special acknowledgements to Peggy & Jay Eisele for their dedication to helping at the Scorpion's scorer's table.
The Scorpions feed the Salpointe Lancers high school program mainly and recently have sent, Jay Williams, Alec Meyer, Joe Gerbo, Jack Hundley & Jackson Biaggi to the Lancers, along with Trey Wilhite & Aidan Barnes to Catalina Foothills.  2 past players, Cameron Wilhite plays at the Univ. of Az, and Eric Carter plays at the Univ. of Denver.  Congrats to the Scorpion's coaching staff.

A highlight for Tucson's JHS teams, was a "night game" under the lights, at Salpointe HS on Feb 22nd between Catalina Foothills Spartans & the Tucson Scorpions, won by the Scorpions 10-5.  First night game for the JHS.
Tucson's JHS Tanque Verde Bobcats & Oro Valley's Warriors finished the regular season in Div II 6-4

Tucson Youth Lacrosse continues to benefit from the efforts of Mike Storie, as Mike conducted the 2nd year of the Southern Arizona Lacrosse Academy (SALA) for the U-6 level kids, 3rd,4th & 5th graders !   See Link on Home Page.

NEW GROWTH for Tucson Youth Lacrosse is the development of the Tucson Division of Arizona FORCE Lacrosse Club, directed by Mike Kapp.  Summer sessions ran in May & June in the evenings to beat the heat out at Lincoln Park.  The Force put together a JHS travel squad that went to the DENVER Shootout Tournament at the end of June and faired very well.   Mike Storie, Dan May, Scott Harden & Louis Lipscumb made up the first year's coaching staff, along with 6-8 high school players.

Tucson's TOP Area players once again formed the Tucson ELITE team (awaiting details from coaches Rullan & Kreiger)

Tucson's only high school girls team in the state's AGLA, struggles with a new young team in Div II finishing
2-12.  One major highlight is the acquistion of new head coach Kristy Manas, who should start to turn things in a positive light with her experience.

TYL Inc. & Tucson FORCE Lacrosse Club join efforts and start "after school" lacrosse classes at the following K-8 & K-5 schools...   St. Cyrils, Coronado, Donaldson, Harelson, Copper Creek & Painted Sky.  More schools will be added as the program grows.
Beth Gentle has joined Mike Kapp & Dan May as the program's promotions & fields coordinator.  She's already making a positive impact on the growth of lacrosse in Tucson. Beth is a strong paricipant with the CEP (Community Extension Program).  Her son "Mikey" started playing lacrosse this past summer with the Tucson FORCE as a kindergradner !  Tucson's youngest lacrosse player since we started in 2000.

Notes of Interest: One of Tucson's special contributors is ALOA's lacrosse official Jeff Bell; who was a member of the AYLL's Div I Championship game 3-man crew this year. Congrats to Jeff, well earned, you've worked hard to get that recognition.

TYL "founder" Dan May "retires" from the TYL Inc. after 13 years of promotions, coaching & officiating.  Personal business obligations have become too demanding.

Mike Kapp; director of Tucson FORCE Lacrosse Club,  becomes the new TYL INC. President, Treasurer & Secretary & Beth Gentle the fields coordinator.

More coming soon as details are received...
